AESTEA

Liposuction of the arms

Liposuction can be used to contour the shape of the arms and forearms where fat and the fat cells that collect it may have accumulated genetically, as a result of lipedema or due to lifestyle.

Lipedematous adipose tissue may be present on the arms, and therefore both aesthetic and lipedema liposuction may be considered.

Liposuction of the arms

The course of the procedure

Liposuction, especially large-volume liposuction, is not an easy operation and its preparation, procedure and follow-up care must be approached with the utmost responsibility and professionalism.

How the examination is carried out

In the case of lipedema, we cooperate with specialists from other disciplines to establish the diagnosis. We can usually recommend surgery on the basis of clear photographs sent to us, together with other information, especially height and weight data, but also information about your health. The final decision on the extent and location will of course only be made in a personal consultation with your surgeon prior to surgery.

What is the preparation before the procedure

In preparation for surgery, it is necessary to:

  • discontinue all medications causing increased bleeding
  • to reduce the risk of embolism, consider discontinuing contraception three weeks before the procedure
  • maintain a 2-3 week interval since the last infectious disease
  • in order to improve healing before and after the procedure, do not smoke
  • 6 hours before the procedure, do not drink or eat anything
  • not to underestimate cleansing and hygiene on the day of surgery, not to wear make-up
Procedure of the procedure

Liposuction is performed under general anaesthesia. aestea uses the so-called super-wet technique, in which the same fluid is used for infiltration as in the tumescent technique, only in smaller quantities. The amount of fluid infiltrated is approximately the same as the amount of fat suctioned during the operation.

Small incisions, about 4 – 5 mm long, are made in suitable and later difficult to recognize places to allow the entry of two-way cannulas. The cannula is first used to inject a fluid into the tissue, which separates the fat cells from the tissue, and then, with regular movements, the released fat is sucked under vacuum into special containers. The operated areas are compressed with compression linen at the end of the procedure.

Just after the operation

Anti-nausea drugs are administered as a precaution during the operation, pain killers are started immediately after the operation, unpleasant cold sensation is overcome by intensive warming with special hot air heating and warm pillows.

What is the postoperative care

Large volume liposuction is a sensitive and extensive procedure and the post-operative follow-up and care corresponds to this. We strive for maximum comfort of our clients. Experienced nurses monitor the overall condition and are supportive in managing the discomfort of the post-operative period.

The operation is followed by at least one day’s stay in the clinic.
You should expect subsequent pain, which is relieved by analgesics, and nausea.
In the first two weeks after the procedure, it is necessary to limit physical exertion.

Each client leaves our clinic fully informed and familiar with all possible and expected symptoms of the postoperative condition. If in doubt, the client is free to contact the surgeon at any time.

We recommend taking a 1-2 week holiday. You can return to work after 7-14 days and to more or less normal life after 2-3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

You ask, we answer

What technique do you use for liposuction?

There are several techniques of liposuction. At the aestea clinic we use the so-called super-wet technique. In this technique, the affected area is first infiltrated with fluid and then the fluid is suctioned out together with the fat. The amount of fluid infiltrated is approximately the same as the amount of fat suctioned during the operation.

We often operate on patients who weigh over 100 kg, the maximum possible weight for surgery is 120 kg.

Removal of unwanted adipose tissue leads in most cases to pain reduction, improved mobility and overall life satisfaction. However, the removal of all fat, whether lipedema or otherwise, cannot be guaranteed. Similarly, liposuction can by no means be said to be the absolute and exclusive cure for lipedema.

For a number of reasons, we do not recommend liposuction of the upper and lower limbs in one operation.

It depends on the extent of the operation, how many litres are suctioned, but also on the individual sensitivity and resistance of the patient. We recommend taking a leave of 1-2 weeks. After 2-3 weeks it is usually possible to return to normal life.
